Starting September 2018 we will be transitioning all Ikelite ICS bulkheads and sync cord plugs from nickel plated brass to hard anodized aluminum.
This material change represents a significant reduction in weight combined with non-conductivity and equivalent corrosion resistance.
Combining old and new
It is simple to tell old fittings from new: Hard anodized aluminum fittings are black; Nickel plated brass fittings are silver.
It is possible to use older nickel plated plugs and bulkheads in combination with the newer aluminum style. As before, we recommend routinely disconnecting the components, cleaning, and lightly lubricating the threads and sealing surfaces after use.
Whether using the old style, new style, or a combination, it is possible for fittings to seize up if not maintained properly. Fittings must be disconnected and cleaned routinely.
